A Message of Welcome and Thanks from the Rector

The Archbishop of Westminster is ex officio the Chancellor of Mater Ecclesiae College. Accordingly, it is a great joy to welcome our new Chancellor, Archbishop Richard Moth, installed as Archbishop on 14 February 2026, and this is an occasion, also, to say a most sincere Thank you to our founding Chancellor, Cardinal Vincent Nichols, who has nurtured and supported the College so effectively since it was established in 2019. The vision of Cardinal Vincent and of the bishops of England and Wales was for a home-based ecclesiastical faculty serving the educational needs of laypeople, seminarians and clergy throughout the country. The College now regularly awards the Baccalaurate in Theology (STB) and has plans for significant development in the coming years, to offer the Licentiate in Theology (STL) and also in Canon Law (JCL). Together with our new Chancellor, we look forward very much to continuing the growth and strengthening the mission of Mater Ecclesiae.
